What is Alaya Artistry?

Alaya Artistry is a curated art and artefact studio that creates and showcases unique handcrafted pieces, including petrified wood objects, clay artifacts, and lotus leaf paintings, all celebrating everything natural and timeless craftsmanship.

Yes, the studio is open Monday to Saturday, between 11:30 AM and 7:00 PM. While walk-ins are welcome, we recommend visiting by appointment so that our curatorial team can be available to guide you through the collection and offer you their full attention.

Petrified wood is fossilized wood formed over millions of years through a natural process called mineralization. It begins when wood is buried and protected from rapid decay beneath layers of sediment. Mineral-rich water gradually seeps through the wood, filling spaces within it and slowly replacing much of the original organic material with minerals such as silica. Over time, this process preserves the wood’s natural grain, rings, and structure in remarkable detail. Each piece tells the story of a transformation that unfolded over vast stretches of time, making it a distinctive natural fossil shaped by the Earth’s processes.

Lotus leaf art is created using real lotus leaves that are transformed through a series of artisanal techniques. The leaf is skinned to reveal its intricate vein structure, preserving the natural patterns that make each leaf unique. It is then mounted onto canvas or plywood and enhanced with colours, patterns, and finishes. Each piece brings together the organic beauty of the lotus leaf and the artist’s creative vision, resulting in a work that is both natural and expressive.

Clay artifacts are handcrafted and kiln-fired to achieve their final form. While they are made to last, they should be placed in stable settings and protected from impact to preserve their form and finish over time.

Yes, we offer custom commissions across most of our artworks, subject to the specific piece and artist availability.
General Guidance: Timelines may vary depending on the nature of the artwork and sourcing requirements. Our curatorial team will keep you informed at every stage. We encourage clients to share images of their space to help us guide selections and scale.
– Lotus Leaf Paintings There is a limited selection of ready-to-ship lotus leaf paintings. Most pieces are created on commission, allowing you to be part of the process. You can select the size according to your space and requirements, choose from our colour catalogue, define the leaf composition and placement, and decide on the final finish, whether matte, varnished, or resin. Our curatorial team works closely with you throughout, ensuring the artwork is thoughtfully developed to suit your space and aesthetic.
– Olee Maatee Collection (Ceramics) Olee Maatee products are offered as designed by the artist and can be selected from our catalogue. To experience and feel the products firsthand, visit our studio. If a selected piece is available in inventory, it will be dispatched as per the applicable delivery schedule. If it is not currently available, it can be ordered, with a standard delivery timeline of approximately 45–60 days. Our curatorial team will share the delivery schedule accordingly.
For larger installations or project requirements, our curatorial team would be happy to check with the design studio regarding availability and feasibility on commission.
– Petrified Wood These are largely one-of-a-kind natural artifacts and are typically available as ready pieces. While these are not commissioned in the traditional sense, in certain cases, if similar forms or sizes are required, our curatorial team can assist in sourcing options, subject to availability. We can also explore size preferences, depending on the availability of the original wood. As petrified wood originates from natural logs that vary in scale and shape, dimensions are guided by what is available rather than made to exact specifications.
Because many pieces are handmade or natural materials, slight variations in color, texture, or shape may occur. These differences add to their uniqueness.
While we strive to represent every artwork as accurately as possible through photography, images may not fully capture the depth, texture, scale, and character of the piece in person.

Yes, we offer shipping across India through our network of trusted delivery partners. Shipping is charged at actual cost. Once your order is confirmed, we prepare a quotation based on the artwork’s size, weight, and volume and share it with you for approval. Upon confirmation, our team coordinates the shipment to ensure safe and timely delivery.

Keep artworks away from excessive moisture, direct sunlight, and harsh chemicals. Dust gently with a soft cloth. 
Display & Handling 
  • Use UV-filtered lighting for spotlights specificallyto protect pigments and natural fibres.
  • Use Avoid placing artworks neardiffusers, incense, candles, or heat sources.
  • Use Handle artworks only with clean hands or cotton gloves. 
  • Always lift from the frame or backing – never from the surface itself. 
Cleaning & Maintenance 
  • Gently remove surface dust using a feather brush or soft microfiber cloth.
  • Do not press, rub, or drag across the artwork’s surface. 
  • Avoid liquid cleaners, sprays, or compressed air cleaners. 
  • Inspect the piece once every quarter for loose fittings, frame wear and tear, or environmental damage. 
Storage & Transport 
  • Store unframed works flat, between acid-free archival sheets or within protective sleeves. 
  • Wrap framed artworks in bubble wrap with corner guards, ensuring a protective barrier (paper or cloth) is placed between the artwork and bubble wrap. 
  • Always transport artworks upright, never flat or stacked. 

Display & Handling 

  • Place on stable, level surfaces to prevent tipping or adding stress to the base. 
  • Avoid positioning near extreme heat sources or in areas with rapid temperature fluctuations. 
  • Lift and move pieces with both hands, supporting the base: never the rim, edges, or delicate protrusions. 
  • Keep away from high-movement areas where accidental impact may occur.

Cleaning & Maintenance 

  • Dust using a soft, dry microfiber cloth or a soft dry brush. 
  • Wipe gently with a damp cloth and mild soap to deep clean. Do not use high-pressure water to clean these pieces. Dry immediately with a soft towel. 
  • Do not use abrasive scrubbers, harsh chemicals, or acidic cleaners that may damage the glaze or surface finish. 

Storage & Transport

  • Wrap each piece individually in a soft cloth or bubble wrap. Use padding between items to prevent contact during storage.
  • Store in a dry, temperate environment.
  • Note: Indigo totem pole is finished using oxides on ceramic. A little water exposure, dust, or heat will not affect it. However, because the surface is slightly porous, prolonged or continuous exposure to water may lead to some natural growth on the surface.
  • The Growth pieces are made of ceramic and finished with glazes. These are not affected by heat, dust, or occasional water exposure.
  • Both these collections are fired above 1200 degrees. They won’t fade or discolour due to heat. We would recommend placing them in a shaded outdoor area only to protect them from continued water exposure, especially during monsoons.
  • Transport upright and cushioned securely to avoid vibration damage.
Daily Care 
Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth to keep the surface clear. 
Cleaning 
If needed, wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap. Dry immediately to preserve the natural finish. 
What To Avoid 
Avoid abrasives, harsh chemicals, and prolonged moisture exposure. A light, mindful touch helps maintain its natural balance. 
Placement & Movement 
Petrified wood pieces can be heavy. Avoid frequent movement. When repositioning, always lift with full support. Edges, like any natural stone, can chip if handled roughly. 
To Maintain Its Sheen 
Buff occasionally with a soft cloth to restore its natural glow. For deeper nourishment and richness: Apply a small amount of mineral oil or natural beeswax using a soft cloth. Allow it to absorb over a few hours or overnight. Wipe off any excess to leave a smooth, even finish. 
Over Time 
With age, professional polishing can possibly be considered if required. 
Note 
Unlike marble, petrified wood is non-porous and highly stable, making it easy to maintain over time.
